Our Beliefs

1
Compassionate
We at Solus Counseling believe that the good news of the gospel is meant to be a good news for counselors and counselees, to guide us in how to walk with compassion together.
We also believe that people are complex. We are affected by our own bodies, other people, culture, work, spiritual life, and much more. Christian counselors who rely on the Bible are not the only ones who seek to understand and help others. There are many other helpful, compassionate voices out there that we want to learn from, and we want to put it all through the filter of Scripture.
We believe that the gospel communicates the deeply compassionate heart of God, and that Christian counselors must do the Lord's work the Lord's way.
2
Biblical
We at Solus Counseling affirm the unique authority of Scripture, and that it yields faithful, fresh, and timely wisdom for the troubles of life.
We believe this because we also believe that Scripture comes from the mouth of God, and the Holy Spirit presses the word of God into individuals' hearts.
We believe that, as we look more closely at life, it becomes clearer and clearer that Scripture is about counseling: diagnostic categories, causal explanations of behavior and emotion, interpretation of external sufferings and influences, definitions of workable solutions, character of the counselor, goals for the counseling process, etc. These are all matters to which God speaks directly, specifically, and frequently.
3
Christ-centered
Our name Solus Counseling is taken from the Latin phrase “Solus Christus,” which means, Christ Alone. We believe that Christ alone is sufficient to be our hope and help in times of need.
We believe that Christ sees us, understands us, loves us and helps us in our personal and interpersonal struggles. We believe his nearness to us is our greatest blessing.
We believe that Christ-likeness is central to our wellness and human flourishing. We also understand that this journey can follow a path but not a script. There is no formula or easily predictable outcomes. We therefore want to approach each person with humility and constant reliance on God, the wisdom of others, and input from those we help.
